What is an exploit
A program or technique that takes advantage of a security flaw to attack a system.
Almost all software has flaws; an exploit is what turns one of them into an attack that works.
Once the vendor publishes a patch, the flaw stops working on updated machines. That is why updating early is one of the cheapest defenses.
