What is an open model
An AI model that anyone can download, run on their own equipment and modify.
A closed model can only be used through its company's service. An open one publishes its weights, the numbers that store what it learned, which lets you use it without depending on anyone and adapt it.
The flip side is that its safeguards can also be stripped out. That is why very capable open models spark security debates.
