Google has told people who pay for Google AI Plus that, from November 13, the plan will no longer give access to Pro models, either in Gemini or in Search. The 4.99 euro monthly fee will cover only Flash and Flash Lite. To hold on to Gemini Pro, the company points users to Google AI Pro, priced at 21.99 euros a month in Spain.
Google is going to scale back Google AI Plus, its AI plan priced at 4.99 euros a month, as MovilZona reported on Thursday, October 15.
The company has begun emailing subscribers to let them know that, starting November 13, they will no longer be able to pick Pro models in the Gemini app or in AI Mode in Google Search. They will be left with just the Flash and Flash Lite models, which Google describes as faster for everyday questions.
Staying on Gemini Pro will mean moving up to Google AI Pro, the higher plan, which in Spain costs 21.99 euros a month. Chats already started with a Pro model will remain in the history, but writing in them again will require switching to another model.
According to MovilZona, Google had already flagged the change in early October on its support pages. Gemini's help page says that, for personal accounts, the changes to available models began on October 9 for people without a subscription, and that AI Plus subscribers would get an email with the date that applies to them. Since then, users without a plan have had Gemini choose the model automatically, sending most requests to Flash-Lite.
MovilZona adds that the new Gemini 4 Argon, released in recent days, is only available on the AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.
Why it matters · analysis and opinion
The move makes clear how Google arranges its AI subscriptions: the cheap plan is a way in, and the most capable models are kept for the higher tiers, as already happens with its latest model. Anyone who used AI Plus as an affordable route to Gemini Pro has to do the maths. It is worth looking at which tasks really show the difference: for summarising, searching or drafting simple texts, the Flash models may be enough; for long analyses or complex reasoning, perhaps not. It is also a good time to compare what other companies offer before accepting the price jump, and to save or finish important conversations opened with Pro, because continuing them will mean switching models.
