SpaceXAI is opening Grok Bot, its agent app, to models from other companies, such as Claude Opus 5.5, developed by Anthropic. Musk said on X that each job will go to whichever model works best, and the list also includes Midjourney for images and Suno for music. The announcement does not specify which model will handle each job; Grok Bot came out in August.
Elon Musk has announced that Grok Bot, the SpaceXAI app whose AI agents carry out tasks for the user, will also use models from other companies, including Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5.
Musk explained it in a post on X quoted by The Next Web: going forward, SpaceX will use the best back-end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney (which generates images), Suno (which generates music) and other leading APIs. "Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome," he wrote. He has not detailed which model will handle each task.
Grok Bot is the agent app of SpaceXAI, the AI business Musk has folded into SpaceX. It launched in August; each Bot works on its own computer and can carry out several tasks in parallel. According to Infobae, it is available for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
In May, Anthropic signed a deal with SpaceX to use Colossus 1, its supercomputer, and obtain the computing capacity Claude needs, as Hipertextual recalls. Now the relationship also runs the other way.
Why it matters · analysis and opinion
Until recently, each big lab presented its agent as a showcase for its own models. That SpaceXAI, with models of its own and heavy spending on computing, accepts turning to others for some tasks suggests that value is shifting to the layer that organises the work and decides who to hand it to. It is also a turn between two companies that already needed each other: one supplies the computing and the other, now, the model as well. For anyone using agents day to day, the practical question is a different one: which provider sees each piece of data when the agent splits a task among several, and who answers if something goes wrong. Until Musk details the split, the prudent course is to treat Grok Bot as an intermediary and review what information is entrusted to it.
