Chrome starts suggesting Gmail data when filling out forms with Gemini, for now only in the US

Google has switched on an improvement in Chrome that completes forms with information from Gmail, such as order numbers, shipment tracking or flight bookings. Gemini makes it possible, and only for people who have turned on Personal Intelligence, with a first rollout in the United States on computers, Android and iOS. Google says it encrypts the sensitive information and that each user decides what the feature can reach.

Google has started rolling out an improvement to Chrome's autofill that pulls data from Gmail to complete web forms. According to its announcement, enhanced autofill can automatically suggest information from the inbox while a form is being filled in, relying on Gemini with Personal Intelligence, the setting that lets Gemini use the user's personal information. Google announced the change on October 28 and, for now, it surfaces order numbers, shipment tracking details and flight bookings.

The rollout begins in the United States, on desktop, Android and iOS, and reaches people who use Gemini in Chrome, the assistant built into the browser, and have Personal Intelligence switched on. Google says sensitive data is encrypted and that users control, from Chrome's settings, whether the feature is on and what it can access. According to SoftZone, without that explicit permission autofill keeps working as before, without looking at email.

One example SoftZone gives is an airline: instead of hunting for the booking code in the confirmation email, Chrome offers it directly in the field. SoftZone adds that Google has not published the full list of supported fields or given a date for widening access, and that the feature will soon also be able to draw on images saved in Google Photos. The same outlet notes that the encryption Google mentions does not make clear how long suggestions generated from email are kept.

Why it matters · analysis and opinion

Having the browser consult email to complete a form is convenient, but it turns Gemini's permissions into a privacy decision that each person must make on purpose. The feature does not switch itself on with the update: it depends on Personal Intelligence and can be revoked from the settings, so the prudent step is to review what has been granted before it reaches the account. Anyone managing teams or company accounts should also check whether access to corporate email fits their internal policy. It remains unclear how long the suggestions drawn from email are kept, something neither Google nor the coverage gathered here spells out yet. The concrete benefit is small, but the precedent weighs more: autofill no longer looks only at what is saved in the profile.
