Meta is bringing in Conductor, whose tool coordinates several code-writing agents in parallel, in a deal Axios describes as a purchase and whose price has not come out. Conductor Cloud stops accepting changes on November 13 and goes dark a week later. People on the Mac app will get new models and essential fixes until early 2027, and can move their work there.
Conductor, an AI coding startup, posted in its changelog on Wednesday, November 4, that it is joining Meta. Its platform is built so a developer can put several coding agents to work on their code at the same time.
Axios, citing people familiar with the deal, describes it as a purchase by Meta and notes that the financial terms have not been made public. Confirmation that Conductor is joining Meta comes from Conductor's own announcement, not from a Meta statement. According to Axios, the company was set up in 2024 and is run by its co-founders, chief executive Charlie Holtz and chief technology officer Jackson de Campos. On the same day, Axios adds, OpenAI announced that it will buy Pierre Computer, another developer tools company.
Holtz also shared the news on X. As reported by PYMNTS, he wrote that the team will work with Nat Friedman and with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, inside Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Conductor's announcement explains that its products will be wound down gradually over the coming weeks and months. Conductor Cloud, the hosted version, becomes read-only on November 13 and stops working on the 20th. The local app, for Mac, will get new models and fixes for critical bugs until early 2027. People working in the cloud can move each workspace, chats included, over to their Mac, or download all of their data under Settings, Account, Export data.
Why it matters · analysis and opinion
The deal puts Meta in the same race as OpenAI, which on the same day announced another purchase of developer tools: whoever controls the environment where people code with agents gets the heaviest users of AI. What Meta is taking on is above all a team and a way of working, not a product it will keep selling, because Conductor is winding down. For teams that relied on it every day, the window is short: they need to export their data and find another way to coordinate agents before the cloud closes. The local app buys a little more time, but only with the essentials. It remains to be seen what Meta will launch with this team and whether it will accept models from other companies.
