Make adds a fallback connection to Make AI Agent

Make, the automation platform, has added a fallback connection to Make AI Agent, its module for building AI agents inside automations. If the main connection to the model fails, Make retries the run once with the fallback connection instead of marking it as failed. It is turned on in the advanced settings, and the module is still in open beta.

Make, the automation platform, has added a fallback connection to Make AI Agent, its module for building AI agents inside automations.

If the main connection to the model fails, whether because of a provider outage, because it does not respond in time, because the request limit has been reached or because the connection is invalid or has expired, Make retries the run once with the fallback connection instead of marking it as failed.

By default, the fallback uses Make AI Provider, the AI connection from Make itself, and you can choose the model. Make recommends picking a different model from the main one, so that a failure in a specific model does not stop the agent.

It is turned on in the advanced settings of the module. When the fallback kicks in, the reasoning tab of the agent records it: first that the main connection has failed and then that the fallback is being used.

That said, the new Make AI Agent is in open beta, and Make warns that its features and pricing may change.

We see something useful here for a small business that already has agents answering emails or preparing replies: if the AI provider fails, the task gets a second chance. We think it is worth turning it on for the agents that do important work.

Why it matters

A one-off failure of the AI provider no longer stops the agent's task on the first try.
