Elon Musk has confirmed on X that SpaceXAI, the AI division of SpaceX, will be renamed SpaceXSI, but he has not said when. The change follows the executive order Donald Trump signed on September 29, which requires federal agencies to use Super Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence in official communications, websites and reports. It will be its second name change: SpaceX bought xAI in February and renamed it SpaceXAI in July.
Elon Musk has confirmed on X that SpaceXAI, the artificial intelligence division of SpaceX, will be renamed SpaceXSI. He did so on Sunday, replying to a user who asked about the change: "Yes, we will make that change". In another post he wrote "No more AI" and added that SI was better. He has not said when the change will take effect.
The change follows the executive order "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence", which Donald Trump signed on September 29. The order requires federal departments and agencies to use "Super Intelligence" (SI) instead of "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) in official correspondence, public communications, websites and reports. It does not change laws or documents already issued, and it argues that today's most advanced systems "do much more than imitate or automate" aspects of human intelligence.
For SpaceXAI, this will be its second name change: SpaceX bought xAI, the Musk company that created Grok, in February, and in July it was renamed SpaceXAI.
Why it matters
An order about the federal government's own wording is already changing the name of a private AI company.
