Ghost, the startup led by 19-year-old Zain Javaid, came out of stealth on Monday with Core, a personal computer designed to run AI agents (assistants that carry out tasks on their own) with the models installed on the device itself. Preorders for the first batch are open on its website.
Core costs $3,499 before tax and does not require a subscription. It has no screen: people use it from their phone or computer through its app. It comes with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 4000 Blackwell graphics card with 24 GB of memory, an AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor, 64 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, and ships with models already installed, such as Qwen 3.8 and Gemma 4.
The idea is for it to run around the clock: it connects to email, calendar, files, smart home devices and health wearables, learns its owner's routine and suggests things without waiting to be asked. According to the company, it encrypts, stores and processes data on the device itself, although it still needs an internet connection for web search, email and updates.
The first batch ships on October 31, with 30-day returns and a one-year warranty. According to TechCrunch, Ghost has also closed an $11 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz and builds the units in San Francisco.
Why it matters
It is a bet on keeping AI agents on a device you own, running around the clock with your data stored at home.
