Sony Music has now asked for the removal of more than 260,000 AI-made songs that imitate its artists, such as Harry Styles, Adele, Queen and Michael Jackson. These are requests sent to platforms through the end of September, not confirmed removals, and at the end of March the figure was more than 135,000. The label wants platforms to block new uploads of the same material and supports the NO FAKES Act.
Sony Music has now asked for the removal of more than 260,000 AI-made songs that imitate its artists.
The label told the Financial Times: these are requests sent to digital platforms through the end of September, not confirmed removals, and at the end of March the figure was more than 135,000. The tracks impersonate artists from its catalog such as Harry Styles, Adele, Queen and Michael Jackson.
Sony says this content can reappear after being taken down and is asking platforms to prevent new uploads of the same material. It also supports the NO FAKES Act, a US bill against unauthorized digital replicas of a person's voice and likeness, which is not yet law.
We think the debate is no longer whether AI is used in music, but who can imitate whom and with what permission.
Why it matters
