Anthropic gives startups $1,000 and a year of Claude Team for up to five seats
In 30 seconds
Claude Startups, Anthropic's program for young companies, now hands out $1,000 for its API, valid for six months, plus twelve months of Claude Team for as many as five seats. Startups under five years old or recently funded can apply; those backed by a partner fund can add up to $100,000. Members also receive third-party discounts worth up to $45,000 and biweekly calls with its experts.
Anthropic has expanded Claude Startups, its program for young companies building on its models. Startups founded in the last five years or funded in the last two can apply, and Anthropic reviews every application.
Each approved company gets $1,000 in Claude API credits (the way to use its models inside their own applications), which expire after six months. If it is not already on Claude Team, Claude's paid plan for teams, it gets it free for a year for up to five Premium seats. Startups backed by a venture capital firm in Anthropic's partner network can get up to $100,000 in additional credits through that firm.
The package adds offers from partner companies worth up to $45,000, on tools such as ElevenLabs, ClickHouse, Gamma and Granola; Anthropic notes that these benefits are offered by those companies, not by Anthropic. Members also get higher API rate limits and can sign up for 45-minute live office hours, held every other week, with Anthropic's Applied AI team. The credits only work on Anthropic's own API, not on Amazon's (Bedrock) or Google's (Vertex AI) services.
The new terms take effect this Tuesday, October 6, during SF Tech Week in San Francisco, where Anthropic is running the Claude Founder House until October 8, a space with talks and workshops for founders. Applications are made through Claude Console, Anthropic's developer console.
Why it matters · analysis and opinion
Startup programs are how AI labs win over the people who will build tomorrow's products, and Anthropic is making its own more generous: API credits, a year of its plan for teams and discounts on tools from other companies. It matters to young companies building with AI and to the funds backing them; a small business older than five years with no recent funding cannot apply. In our view, a startup that meets the conditions should apply, with two caveats: the $1,000 expires after six months, so it is worth having a project ready to spend it, and the credits do not work on Bedrock or Vertex AI, which matters if it already runs on Amazon or Google.
