ICANN has made public the 1,615 requests in its new domain round, and 18 of them come from Meta. Besides .superintelligence, which it wants to open to everyone, the company is claiming its brands and AI names such as .metaai or .llama. There are 13 applications in total for .agent, Google and OpenAI among them, and the final list is due on November 17.

On Wednesday, October 7, ICANN, the organization that manages internet names, published the applications in its new round of domain endings, like .com or .es. Meta has applied for 18 of them, including .superintelligence.

The full list brings together 1,615 applications, submitted between April 30 and August 12. Of those, 333 are brand applications.

Besides .superintelligence, Meta is applying for the names of its brands, such as .facebook, .instagram, .whatsapp or .threads, and others tied to AI, such as .metaai, .llama (its family of AI models) or .aiglasses (AI glasses), according to the list published by the specialist site Domain Name Wire.

According to the same outlet, Meta applied for .superintelligence as an open ending: if it is granted, anyone will be able to register their own .superintelligence address. The company Radix also applied for it, but only as a backup ending, and that application is void because Meta applied for it as its first choice.

For .agent, it will have to compete. ICANN's official list shows 13 applications for that ending, including those from Meta, Google and OpenAI.

The applications still have to go through ICANN's evaluation. Until October 21, applicants that submitted a backup ending can switch to it, and the final list of applied-for endings will be published on November 17.

Why it matters · analysis and opinion

Domains have become another front in the AI race. Meta is not just protecting its brands, which is common among large companies: it is also trying to secure words that describe where it wants to take its technology, such as superintelligence or agent. That Meta, Google and OpenAI are fighting over .agent suggests they expect AI agents to have their own space on the internet, with easy-to-recognize addresses. For businesses and professionals, nothing changes for now: none of these endings works yet, and first they have to pass ICANN's evaluation. For anyone interested in registering a name under an open ending such as .superintelligence, the practical step is to follow ICANN's calendar to know when registration opens.
