Hy4, Tencent's new model, is the first in its family that understands images and operates the computer, including programs such as Blender. Tencent says it kept offensive hacking material out of training and that two of its security teams put it to the test. OpenRouter is among the platforms that will offer it, at the same price as Hy4 Preview.
Tencent has unveiled Hy4, the newest version of its family of artificial intelligence models and the first one that adds vision and computer use. The company announced it on Wednesday, November 4.
It follows Hy4 Preview, the early version that came out on August 28, as SiliconANGLE notes. According to Tencent, the new model reads images, works through complex charts and solves math problems that involve visual elements. It can also operate both the command line and graphical interfaces, and it was given dedicated training on professional software such as Blender and CAD design tools. The company also points to gains in following instructions, handling long texts and long-running agent tasks, as well as in web and game development.
On cybersecurity, Tencent says it trained Hy4 on defensive data, centered on proofs of concept and fixing vulnerabilities, and that it deliberately left out offensive material tied to exploiting flaws. Specialists from two in-house labs, Xuanwu Lab and Keen Security Lab, tested it on cryptographic reverse engineering, binary deobfuscation and exploiting vulnerabilities, and found no significant problems in those areas, according to the company. Xataka points out that Moonshot AI also removed cybersecurity information while building Kimi K3.1 Pro.
Hy4 already runs in Tencent services such as Yuanbao, WorkBuddy, CodeBuddy and Tencent Cloud TokenHub, and its API is coming to third-party platforms such as OpenCode, Hermes and OpenRouter. It keeps the price of the early version: about $0.90 for every million input tokens and $2.70 for every million output tokens. From November 4 to 15, WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy are free, and on TokenHub the model is 50% off until December 31, 2026.
Tencent expects to publish the model weights and its system cards over the next few days. The performance and safety results known so far are the ones reported by the company itself.
Why it matters · analysis and opinion
With vision and computer control, Tencent catches up with features now expected from the most advanced models, and it does so with one it plans to release openly. More than its capabilities, what sets Hy4 apart is the decision not to teach it how to exploit flaws: in a model that anyone will be able to download and modify, what is not learned during training is harder to bring back than a filter that can be removed. That promise, however, rests for now on the company's own evaluations. Once the weights are available, independent researchers will be able to check whether it really performs worse at attacking and whether that limit makes it less useful for legitimate defensive work.
